Spring Home Maintenance
Spring is that time of year when we give our homes the once over and assess any winter damage, figure out what needs to be done, and schedule the work so our homes are in tip-top shape.
Use the checklist below to get your home spring-ready.
- Install new batteries in smoke alarms & carbon monoxide detectors and test them
- Replace furnace filter
- Clean and test exhaust fans (kitchen, bathroom and dryer vent)
- Clean kitchen exhaust hood & filter
- Vacuum refrigerator coils
- Schedule air conditioning inspection
- Check fire extinguishers and replace if expired
- Clean gutters, check for leaks & make sure they’re attached securely
- Clean & seal deck—if needed
- Check foundation for cracks & leaks
- Check exterior paint & touch up as needed
- Check siding & masonry for damage & schedule repairs
- Remove storm windows if you still have them & install screens
- Repair/replace damaged window screens
- Inspect caulking and weatherstripping in your bathroom, kitchen, and around windows— replace if cracked or damaged
- Check your roof for damage & schedule re-roofing if required
- Check your attic for leaks, mould, moisture intrusion, fire hazards & critters
- Check your water heater for leaks. Schedule an inspection if your system is over five years old
